Boko Haram Leader Shekau Critically Sick

Leader of Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau, is reportedly critically ill and is believed to be “too weak to be in charge” of the jihadists. Shekau has a range of conditions that have left him, AFP quoted a source close to Shekau as saying on Friday. A senior security source tracking the conflict, and wants annoymity, has described Shekau’s diabetes as “debilitating”.

FG Reacts To Fatal Lagos Tanker Explosion

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday visited Lagos to convey the condolences of the federal government to the state government on the tragic tanker explosion that occured on Thursday at the Otedola Bridge which claimed lives and properties. Osinbajo, who spoke shortly after a closed door meeting with the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, said the federal government was deeply saddened by the incident.

Governors To Force Buhari To Sack Security Chiefs

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) on Friday visited Plateau state to commiserate with the people and government of the state over the recent killing of over 85 people by suspected herdsmen. Chairman of the Forum and Zamfara state Governor, Abdulazeez Yari, led his colleagues on the condolence visit to the state. Speaking on behalf of the forum, Yari said the forum willl pressurize President Muhammadu Buhari to relieve security chiefs of their duty, if they cannot stay on top of security challenges bedeviling the country.

Buhari Media Organisation Blames PDP For Plateau Killings

Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) described the killing of scores of innocent Nigerians in Plateau as the handiwork of dare-devil political opponents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The organization made this known in a statement jointly issued by the chairman of the organization Austin Braimo and Secretary Cassidy Madueke on Friday in Abuja. It said that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was behind the “harvest of death in order to truncate the achievement of the APC and cast dark imagery on the season of goodwill of President Buhari’s political party.”

FG Pledges Support For Kaduna Rainstorm Victims

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Katsina assured that the federal government would provide assistance to those affected by the recent rainstorm in the state. Buhari gave the assurance at the Palace of Emir of Katsina, when he visited Katsina State to commiserate with victims of the disaster.

PDP Mourns Victims Of Lagos Tanker Fire, Katsina Windstorm

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commiserated with the government and people of Lagos state, particularly the families of the victims of the Otedola Bridge petrol tanker explosion. PDP in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan on Friday in Abuja, said the party was grieved by the Thursday incident which led to loss of many lives and properties. PDP also condoled with the victims of the torrential rainfall that claimed the lives and properties of some residents in Katsina state.

Court Dismisses Suit Challenging Kebbi Governor’s Election

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit challenging the election of Atiku Bagudu as the governor of Kebbi state. Delivering a ruling on the matter on Friday, Justice Ahmed Mohammed dismissed the suit for lacking in merit. The trial judge held that the plaintiff did not prove beyond reasonable doubt that the governor was not qualified to run for office and that he lied under oath.

Three Babies Dead, 100 Missing In Libya Shipwreck

Three babies died off the coast of Libya on Friday while 100 people remained missing in the latest Mediterranean migrant shipwreck as European leaders reached a hard-fought deal to tackle the issue. Around 120 migrants were aboard the inflatable craft when it ran into trouble, according to survivors taken to Al-Hmidiya, east of the capital Tripoli. Just 16 were rescued, while the missing included two babies and three children under the age of 12.

Fifa To Pay Super Eagles £6.1m

World football governing body, Fifa, would pay the Super Eagles and other teams that failed to progress beyond the group stages of the 2018 World Cup £6.1 million each. The Super Eagles would have received £9.1 million if the match against Argentina ended in their favour. This is because any team eliminated from the round of 16 stage will receive £9.1million.
