Brazil failed to win a World Cup opening game for the first time since 1978 as Switzerland held them to a 1-1 draw at the Rostov Arena on Sunday in a Group E 2018 World Cup opener. Philippe Coutinho’s 20th minute thunderbolt was cancelled out by Steven Suber’s header as Brazil were held by a resolute Swiss side. Five-time World Champions, Brazil, had enough opportunities to seal a win towards the end, but it was not their evening.
Serbia lead Group E after a win over Costa Rica earlier in the day, but Brazil will be confident of getting a result from the two. Switzerland will also going into the next round of games with renewed confidence from this result.
