The 75-year-old president had on Tuesday said he will assent to a bill that will pave a way for more young people to contest elections in Africa’s most populous country. Known as ‘Not Too Young to Run’ Bill, when passed into law later this week, the bill will lower the age limit for those seeking political office in a country where more than half of the population is younger than 30. “In few days to come, I will be joined by many promising young Nigerians to sign into law the “Not Too Young to Run” Bill,” President Muhammadu Buhari said in a televised speech to mark the nineteenth anniversary of Nigeria’s return to democracy and the third year of his government. Three issues are behind threat to leave the ruling party, it was learnt yesterday. The issues were identified at a meeting between Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and some of the ex-nPDP leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday. The meeting raised an eight-man panel to resolve the issue. The panel will comprise four members each from both sides. The meeting was a follow up to the one with the APC leadership few days ago. The group had given the party one week to meet with it over its grievances. Embattled Melaye announced his defection at the plenary on Wednesday, causing  rowdy session. Jagaba’s defection was contained in a letter read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara. Their defection came barely 24 hours after Prince Dayo Adeyeye, one of the aspirants for the governorship ticket of PDP in Ekiti State, dumped the party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lagos Police Arrest Man Rushing Home To See His Dying Dad Because He Had 4 Phones With Him (Photos) Treading.com May 29, 2018 6:20 PM A young man travelling to the eastern part of Nigeria was prevented from continuing on his journey by Lagos state police because he had four phones with him. The bus conveying the young man and other travellers was reportedly stopped on Ikorodu Sagamu expressway and the young man was detained because he had multiple phones. According to the Twitter user who shared the story, the young man explained that he was travelling home to see his dying dad and people gave him phones to deliver to people in his home town. However, the police officer still refused to let him continue on his journey. After an hour of waiting, the bus driver had to continue the journey with other passengers, leaving the young man and his luggage in the middle of nowhere with the police officer. Despite warnings to members of the community to give way, some of the youths allegedly attacked the security operatives. The development angered the operatives who came forcefully to open the gate.
